The Montana Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee announced that for the seventh consecutive year, Montana Polaris is the sponsor of the Young Discussion Meet, awarding a Ranger ® Side by Side UTV to the winner of the competition. The announcement came during the  YF&R Committee meeting at the MFBF Summer Conference in Great Falls June 7-9 in Great Falls, MT.

The Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic and is an excellent way for young people to learn more about agricultural issues.

“We are excited and honored to have Polaris and our Montana Polaris dealers sponsoring our young farmers and ranchers again this year and donating the grand prize Ranger for our 2021 Discussion Meet winner,” said MFBF YF&R Chair J.M. Peck. “In addition, we appreciate that their generous donation attracts interested competitors.”

Not only will the winner of the Montana YF&R Discussion Meet receive a Polaris Ranger, but they will also receive an expense-paid trip to participate in the American Farm Bureau Discussion Meet January 2022 in Atlanta, GA.

During the YF&R Committee meeting, the group talked about MFBF’s transition to take the lead on the Young Ag Leadership Conference (YALC) which will be held Oct. 15-17 in Bozeman. In addition, they heard a legislative update and took a tour of Ag Processing Solutions in Vaughn.

Principal Engineer Andrew Bishop discussed his company’s mission to add value to agricultural products, such as hemp. They are currently working with the plant to develop processing that will make fiscal sense and have a market for hemp.

“The hemp processing plant is in its infancy, and Ag Processing Solutions is building facilities to process it,” said Bishop. “We’re not going to save the world with hemp, but farmers need to be incentivized to grow it. There are uses for it such as “bricks”, hempcrete, bedding for horse stalls and insulation, as well as producing alternatives to petroleum products.”
