Hello! My name is Makae Reed, and I reside in Whitehall, MT, where my husband and I raise a small flock of sheep. I’ve been a proud Farm Bureau member for just over two years now and have truly enjoyed the sense of community and shared purpose it provides.

I first became interested in the ACE Leadership Program after hearing about the positive experiences of past participants—their opportunities to network, grow personally and professionally, and strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills. Seeing the growth others experienced motivated me to get involved myself.

Upon completing the ACE program, I hope to become more involved with the Southwest Counties Farm Bureau, including serving on the board of directors. Through this, I aim to help maintain and grow the organization’s strong presence in southwest Montana.

One issue I believe is critical to the future of agriculture is the loss of agricultural land and the decline in its traditional uses. Land is one resource we can’t make more of, and it’s essential for the continued production of food and fiber. After participating in the ACE program, I feel more confident in my ability to share my story and help educate those who may not be familiar with agriculture.

Because of this issue—and many others—it’s more important than ever for young farmers and ranchers to build strong leadership skills and advocate for agriculture by sharing their first-hand experiences and perspectives.
